ShuMing's creative talents first manifested as a young girl in Taipei, Taiwan R.O.C. and cover a wide array of media  & crafts. Over the years, she was introduced to the numerous open-air markets throughout Southeast Asia where precious and semiprecious stones and objects d'art were bought and sold at literally hundreds of small tables in a bazaar-like atmosphere. After learning how to distinguish quality and value, ShuMing began to purchase unique items that she fashioned into accessories for her personal use. After emigrating to the United States, she settled in North San Diego County where she continued to develop her craft for her own amusement. When some friends requested to purchase several of her creations, ShuMing expanded the scope and variety of her repertoire. Her reputation expanded slowly at first, by word-of mouth. Soon she was approached by an owner of a local upscale Asian restaurant to place a display of her work in the restaurant. This display started a snowball of local interest and, as a result, she was commissioned to supply the entire sales reward premium selection for a major cosmetics manufacturer's international sales convention. Her creations were no longer just a hobby.

Founded in 1999 by ShuMing, chinaknots is celebrating it's 8th  year with the introduction of hallmarked 0.998 fine silver PMC sculptured creations on a limited stock and commission basis. As time permits, this new activity will join chinaknots' collection of  custom designed Costume Jewelry Creations featuring Jade, Amber, Pearls, Shells, and Exotic & Semi-Precious Stones. In the near future, ShuMing hopes to be able to offer creations from a small group of select craft artists, whose work she admires and who share her commitment to personalized service.
